2 Kings 6:25

As a result [of the siege], there was a great famine in the city. The siege lasted so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty pieces of silver, and a cup of dove’s dung sold for five pieces of silver.

 

2 Kings 7:3–4

. . . “Why should we sit here waiting to die?” they asked each other. . . So we might as well go out and surrender to the Aramean army. If they let us live, so much the better. But if they kill us, we would have died anyway.” 

 

2 Kings 7:8

When the men with leprosy arrived at the edge of the camp, they went into one tent after another, eating and drinking wine; and they carried off silver and gold and clothing and hid it. 

 

2 Kings 7:9

Finally, they said to each other, “This is not right. This is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone . . . Come on, let’s go back and tell the people at the palace.” 

 

The issue wasn’t that they didn’t believe, it was they didn’t believe properly.

 

Luke 24:28–35

By this time they were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus acted as if he were going on, but they begged him, “Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.” So he went home with them. 

 

Acts 16:15

She and her household were baptized, and she asked us to be her guests. “If you agree that I am a true believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my home.” And she urged us until we agreed.

 

Jesus desires to be part of our lives and eagerly awaits our invitation. 

 

Revelation 3:20

Luke 24:30-31

As they sat down to eat, he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared!  

 

Invitation led to Recognition

They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”

Luke 24:33-35

And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and the others who had gathered with them, who said, “The Lord has really risen! He appeared to Peter.” Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread.
