Grace vs. Sin

Sermon Notes

Filters offer a new perspective on reality.

Control --   Trust

Insecurity --  Security

Angst --  Assurance

Isolation

Control

Avoidance

Instead of defining our unholy trinity, we start to think our unholy trinity defines us.

Identity – This is who you are.

Future – This is who you will always be.

Embrace a filter of grace.

1 John 4:16-18

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

We know and rely on the love God has for us.

“God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”

We remain in God’s love like our lives depend on it.

God doesn’t just offer us grace for our salvation.

God offers us grace for our transformation.

1 John 4:17

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

In this world we are like Jesus.

Ezekiel 36:26-27

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Isolation — Vulnerability

Control — Trust

Avoidance — Courage

Control --  Trust

Insecurity --  Security

Angst --  Assurance

John 14:2-3

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
