Sermon Notes
Hosea 1:2
When the Lord first began speaking to Israel through Hosea, he said to him, “Go and marry a prostitute, so that some of her children will be conceived in prostitution. This will illustrate how Israel has acted like a prostitute by turning against the Lord and worshiping other gods.”
Hosea 3:1
Then the Lord said to me, “Go and love your wife again, even though shecommits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them.
HOSEA = GOD
GOMER = US
We are more sinful than we realize and more loved than we realize
Romans 3:23
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
We tend to grossly overestimate our own goodness, and we grossly underestimate the holiness and power of God.
We must press into the long-suffering grace of God.
Hosea 2:14
But then I will win her back once again. I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her there.
Romans 5:8
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
1 Timothy 1:16
But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
The grace of God allows us to return God and when we return to God we return to His blessings
Hosea 6:1 -3
Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces; now he will heal us. He has injured us; now he will bandage our wounds. In just a short time he will restore us, so that we may live in his presence. Oh, that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.”
Hosea 14:4-5
The Lord says, “Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever. I will be to Israel like a refreshing dew from heaven. Israel will blossom like the lily; it will send roots deep into the soil like the cedars in Lebanon.
