Matthew 7:27

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Matthew 7:24

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Faith

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Hebrews 10:39

But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.

Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Faith is the indispensable (necessary) channel of salvation. It is faith that one builds a life (house) on and it is by faith, we walk into the experience of what it means to truly be a Christian.

Am I a person of faith?

Faith cannot be something so subjective that it excludes the objective truth God has already revealed.

1 John 2:22–23

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; everyone who confesses the Son has the Father also.

Faith cannot be divorced from the objective truth, which has been made clear to us in the Scriptures.

Biblical faith is reliable, since it is based on the trustworthiness and the reliability of God. In other words, to define faith, we start with God.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Proverbs 15:29

The LORD [Yahweh]. .  . hears the prayer of the righteous.

Psalm 37:23

Our steps are made firm by the Lord, when he delights in our way;

Psalm 139:16

Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed.

John 11:25–26

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”

John 14:2–3

In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.

Faith is dependent upon what can be known about God.

Exegesis is the process of careful, analytical study of biblical passages undertaken in order to produce useful interpretations of those passages.

John 1:18

No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.

  • Knowledge—Who is Jesus?
  • Action—In light of what you discover about Jesus, what should you do?
  • Trust—If you know, and you are willing to act on what you know, you can choose to trust, because you have done the homework.

Lord Jesus, I love you, I know you are mine;

For you all the follies of sin I resign;

My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art thou;

If ever I loved you, my Jesus, it’s now.
