Sermon Notes
Is this the life I wanted?
John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
Strategic Relationships
Strategic--relating to the identification of long-term or overall aims and interests and the means of achieving them.
Does this relationship align with and serve the God-given mission for my life?
Everybody is going to want a piece of you. You have to choose who gets a piece of you.
All relationships will cost you something.
Your time and energies are finite, so every relationship will negate the opportunity for something else.
The compelling vision in Jesus’ life was the cross.
The compelling vision in Jesus’ life was investing in and preparing a small group of disciples to carry on the mission.
Matthew 16:14–20
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Peter took him aside . . . “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”
Principle #1- Don’t get discouraged by people who are still discovering the abundant life.
Principle #2- Don’t try to get from anyone what you can only get from God.
