Sermons / Our Next Guest / Week 3 - Abraham
Sermon Notes
Do you know anybody who loves their independence and struggles living a life dependent on God?
Do you know anybody who lives with an acute sense of fear and insecurity?
While Abraham was unsteady, God remained steady.
Genesis 16:13 (NIV84)
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: "You are the God who sees me," for she said, "I have now seen the One who sees me."
El Roi — The God who sees.
Genesis 21:1–3 (NIV84)
Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. 3 Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him.
Genesis 22:1–19 (NIV84)
Some time later God tested Abraham.
2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.”
Abraham's circumstances, don't add up to what he believes about God.
