Sermons / The Way It Works / Do Not Commit Adultry
Sermon Notes
You shall not commit adultery.
The law of God shows me I’m a sinner, and sends me to Jesus for salvation. Jesus returns me to the law, to show me the way life works.
Exodus 20:14
You shall not commit adultery.
As God lays down the building block of his law, he issues this seventh commandment to protect the sanctity of a home, the fundamental building block of society.
Matthew 5:27-30
You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery,' but I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
A relationship has the power to change what a religion does not, it can change a heart.
Matthew 5:28
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Lust - when we allow our minds to linger on a sexual or emotional desire for someone
In the "with God" life, heart and thought sins are real things.
Matthew 5:29-30
If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell.
Myth: Sex is just a physical act.
Truth: Sex is not just physical.
"Do not destroy that which I have created, specifically, that which bears my image."
"Do not use what I have created in any way that abuses my image in them or in you."
Adultery and lust, flow from a lack in our souls. The way forward is to fill our souls with the relationship with God, we were created for.
