Sermon Notes
Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship.
--Timothy Keller
Worship is a response to what we value most.
Romans 11:36
For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.
Romans 12:1-2
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 1:21–23
Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.
Have I exchanged the glory of God for the busyness of life?
Deuteronomy 6:14-15
Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God.
Have I exchanged the glory of God for the pride of life?
John 12:42-43
Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from men more than praise from God.
Have I allowed my feelings to interfere with my worship?
Hebrews 13:15
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise.
Psalm 50:8-13
I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer. But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens. For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?
Psalm 50:14-15
Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.
I Worship God when I live Thankfully
2 Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
I worship God when I honor Him with my life.
Psalm 119: 57-59
You are my portion, Lord; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes.
I worship God when I call on Him in my time of need
Romans 10:3
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
