Mind

Sermon Notes

Galatians 5:1 (NIV84) It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Our minds are troubled, corrupt, anxious, rash, confused, deluded, depraved, dull, restless and evil.

Jeremiah 17:9 (NIV84) 9 The heart (mind) is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

Our minds have a full time job and that job is deception.

Our minds lie to us about who we are.

Our minds spiral to dark places.

Broken minds lead to broken lives.

Romans 12:2 (NIV84) 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Colossians 2:8 (NIV84) 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

Colossians 3:1–2 (NIV84) Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Colossians 3:5,8 (NIV84) 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry . . . rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
