Sermon Notes
Proverbs 3:5–6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
James 4:3
And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.
1 Corinthians 3:9
For we are God’s fellow workers. . .
Luke 11:1–13
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray.”
He said to them, “When you pray, say: “‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.”
“The Spirit teaches me to yield my will entirely to the will of the Father. He opens my ear to wait in great gentleness and teachableness of soul for what the Father has day by day to speak and to teach. He discovers to me how union with God’s will is the Father’s claim, the Son’s example and the true blessedness of the soul.”
-- Andrew Murray
1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.
Soul-satisfying rest
Luke 22:42
“Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
“For our sins, He suffered beneath the burden of unanswered prayer.”
-- Andrew Murray
“My will be done” is defeated by “not my will, but yours.”
